Bloating! No one likes it, yet it happens to all of us. Often times we have no idea why it happens. But, when it does, we want it over as fast as possible. So how can you prevent bloating?

Take probiotics

Your gut is at constant battle between good and bad bacteria. This war for balance is often won by bad bacteria due to the foods we eat. Unfortunately, most of conventionally grown food has a large amount of antibiotics, pesticides and is highly processed which don’t help to cultivate the good bacteria in our gut. This is why a probiotic is a necessity today! Probiotics give our guts the good bacteria it needs to help balance out the bad bacteria from our food. Try Pinnacle Nutrition’s Probiotic for a great probiotic option.

Reduce your sodium intake

The average American diet is full of sodium. Salt enhances the taste of food which is why it’s used in so many of our foods. Sodium also makes us hold onto water, to stop this reaction, it’s important that you regulate the amount of sodium you are consuming on a regular basis.  It’s often recommended that you try to limit sodium intake to around 1,500 milligrams a day, but it’s best to consult your doctor, especially if you have other medical conditions or are taking medications.

Chew Your Food

When is the last time you paid attention to how much you chew your food? Most likely, you don’t think about it at all! Due to our busy schedules and eating on the go, so many people inhale their food and don’t chew enough. Remember, our stomach doesn’t have teeth! If we don’t chew our food enough our gut has to work over time to try to push the larger food objects through. This can cause bloating and excess gas. No fun! Chew your food!

Don’t drink so much and so fast while eating

Growing up you might have been directed by your parents to drink a big glass or milk or water with your dinner. Research shows that drinking, especially drinking large amounts when eating, can actually cause digestion problems. If you really need to drink while eating, take breaks from chewing and slowly sip your drink, don’t gulp. Gulping water can cause air to get into your gut and cause bloating.

Bloating! No one likes it, yet it happens to all of us. Often times we have no idea why it happens. But, when it does, we want it over as fast as possible.

So now that we’ve covered a few ways to prevent bloating what about when we get bloated?

Sip Ginger tea

Why Ginger tea? Ginger helps stimulate saliva, bile, and gastric juices which aid in digestion! When is the best time to drink ginger tea? Typically just before a meal or while you’re eating (small sips between bites). Ginger tea also has muscle relaxant properties that can help relieve gas and cramping.

Go for a walk

Going for a nice light walk will help get things moving around in your stomach. We sit more than we should. We go from our beds, to our desk, to the couch, to our beds. The little movement we do isn’t enough to get things moving around in our gut and push our systems forward. Getting in a walk will help kick start your system.

Drink more water

Water is a natural diuretic. If we aren’t drinking enough water, our bodies will hold onto as much water as it can, causing water retention and bloating. However, if we’re drinking enough water, it will start a flushing effect in our bodies. This helps us flush out all that’s been built up in our systems including sodium and toxins!

Now that you know a few ways to prevent and reduce bloating pass on this helpful information. No one likes to feel bloated!
